Hose over barb fitting lube

Do you guys use a lube when putting a hose over a barb fitting? I've been working with three types:

Fuel
Transmission
Heater

And they are very hard to slide over some of the barb fittings. I'm concerned that if I lube the hoses they might not grip as well (which explains why it's so hard to get them on in the first place as the friction is higher), but is that really a concern?

I just use a little dish soap. It goes away when it dries out.

Thanks! That's what I've used in the past, but got antsy about using it on transmission lines and such.

I used many barbed fittings in the past and always used low grade rubbing alcohol (70%) stuff to slide them on. Got to work quickly but its like grease...others I know have used bleach but I just didn't want it all over me.

That's a great idea! Never thought of that. I'll try that on my transmission lines. Thanks!

I always have a tube of thick silicone dielectric/brake grease so I just put a little dab on.
Helps keep it from crusting up and sticking when pulling off later also.
