Post P0300 causes???
Hi Guys,
not too many Burb owners down here in Oz but a guy from interstate has been asking me for some help/advice with his.
He's getting stuffed around by mechanics (best one I've heard is "you need a new motor....cost upto 10K")
What are the most common causes for the P0300 code?
Also...anyone found any 'off the wall' causes???
Thanks

Howard

man i chased that code for 2 months...best thing is to do a full tune up, but most commin causes are..

bad spark plugs or wires
bad distributor cap or rotor
bad distributor gear (most commin imo)
fuel filter
weak fuel pump
stuck EGR vavle
exhuast leak (before 02 sensors, not ear common)

if all those check out, try a leak down and compression test, and let us know what he comes up with

also MAFS, but if theres some age on it - the distributor gear os most likely knife edged.

Missfires from a knife edged distributer gear are usually prevalent at low throttle cruise conditions. This is because the cam/dist gears arent loaded much and due to the ignition advance being over 30ยบ BTDC. WOT will be fine unless there is some serious wear.

Poppets will also cause missfires quite often as well.

My P0300 was front a burnt valve. Easy check is to check compression in the cylinder.
