14 Bolts Revisited...

I got this answer back from Matt at solid axle.
I've been getting quite a few emails dumping into my spam box lately. I'm still looking into it.

(We don't have any specific "kits" for the 9.5. However, you do have a few options. Check out our full float kits on the site. We have e-brake calipers that will work with these. This kit will use a double splined shaft and drive flanges vs. the flanged axle shafts. Matt)

I asked if they made a full floater kit for the 14 bolt 9.5" SF. The other answer he gave was for the hubs and brake kit for the 10.5" 14 bolt. I like the other set up I found and posted.

if you are looking for a caliper with an ebrake The rear caliper from the 78-79 Cadi Fleet wood will be the cheapest and typically stocked at parts stores.

IMO I don't like putting expensive 1 off parts on my truck because when it breaks its hard to find a replacement cheap.

I like the option to have all four rims the same lug pattern for rotating tires, so the tires last longer. I just have a 350, but the rear tires wear faster. The diesels you notice it even more. I also like the option if I break an axle the whole truck won't end up on the ground damaging other parts. I was looking up on the internet last night to see if you got the kit that is used by Ford and in drag racing to hold the axle in place by the outter bearing instead of with a C-clip. Mark Williams makes them for the 12 bolt but not the 14bolt. That also helps with axle walk.

I do like thos 6 lug Full Float outers. They look nice, and having a 6-lug FF 14 would be kinda cool. I agree with you wanting the full float axle on a trail rig Thats all I would recommend.

My previous post was referring to the the brake caliper for your disc brake conversion. The kit I used for mine says you can use either stock GM truck 1980's front 4x4 1/2ton calipers or 78-79 cadi fleet wood calipers. the stock 80's front calipers are extremely cheap but offer no option for a parking/emergency brake. If you want/need a parking brake use can the stock rear calipers from a 78-79 cadi the calipers they have a cable actuated emergency brake.

I looked a several kits, and the only thing I found different was the actual brake caliper and pads. Using a kit that will allow you to use a typically stocked part at almost any parts store IMO is the only way to go. They are generally cheaper and readily available when you need them in a pinch.

Sometimes I forget to make myself clear. I agree with you on the stock parts. With these stupid drugs I am on right now, I really have to becarefull of how I say things, so I don't come off as being mad. It is a good Idea to carry some of the one off parts just incase.
