Obviously because I follow my own advice, yet find myself still in debt and working for a living. If my advice were worth offering, I would no longer be on this board offering it. Instead I'd be on some tropical island getting one happy ending after another.

Buy high, sell low... Or is it the other way around??

I keep forgetting. Hrm

I knew a guy that would spend 200$/pay on lotteries. Most he won was 20k in 30y of playing!
If you're going to do that, might as well buy penny stocks.

Remind me again what is it that Facebook produces? How much are the people that are using Facebook paying? And, how many Facebook users are actually clicking any of those advertisements, let alone buying anything?

I think Zuckerberg is going to unload his shares as fast as he can, as will all the other initial owners. Remember Myspace? It was the next best thing. Now it's nothing.

Those that bought at the high of 45 are down 15 percent as of the close today. And they are currently holding a strong drink, perhaps a pistol, wondering what happened to the latest next great thing.

I say it's a good stock to stay away from. I never recommend shorting a stock. Why? Because when you buy a stock, the profit potential is endless but the loss potential is the cash you bought it with. But when you short a stock the profit potential is what you sold it for but the loss potential is endless.

Back in the 90s I was in a biotech stock that was being shorted by other people. I bought in at some ridiculous price, like 10 cents a share or something. While I was in it, expecting to turn 1000 bucks into 1050 bucks, the company announced that some disease treatment they'd been working on was approved and they were being bought out by some huge pharmacorp. I don't remember the details. That stock jumped up to 22 bucks a share in like 17 seconds. Someone who had shorted 1000 bucks worth, or 10,000 shares was on the hook for 220,000 dollars almost instantly. The stock finally meandered back down over the next week, but margin calls must be answered within 3 days. While the short interests were contemplating life with a .45 caliber in the brain, I was out buying a new pickup with my profits.

Watch with banks you are dealing with. If you're not making much interest, pull some cash out. Enough for a couple of months. Tools, skills, stuff to trade? Gold, silver coins? Some good land and water? Protection? Hunting, trapping stuff? Is your neighborhood and community pretty safe? Stockton, CA is likely to become epidemic. Maybe Govt. will get people to work for free in exchange for food, healthcare, and a place to live??? Nirvana, right?

I have guns that take commonly available ammo. With them, I can get everything else. I hope it doesn't come to that. If it does, I can guarantee that those who caused it will be hunted down and shot like dogs in the street. Won't be by me though, because if it hits the fan I wouldn't be able to get there fast enough with a Concorde jet and a parachute before the deeds would be done.

I would invest in companies producing domestic guns and ammo. When Obama got elected the prices went through the roof. I imagine they'll go even higher this time. Or if you think Romney might win you could invest in defense contractors and the mega health insurance carriers.

Right, keep all your credit cards paid off. Get the mortgage paid down or paid off. If you've got any debt you're carrying (mortgage/equity) for interest deduction, try to get it down to a level that you could pay off if you wanted to.

What have you got to trade with, or exchage skills for goods with?
What survival tools do you have?
Banks, ATM's, credit cards can all be turned off at the flick of a switch. How much cash have you got on hand?
Where would you get food if the grocery store had a sudden shortage?
What's in your pantry, or kitchen cupboards?
What if your power went out? Got a back up? How long would that last?

Our grandparents and great grandparents would be survivors. Why is that?

Liberty isn't free.
