Looking for a generator head

Post by Speeder »

Thought I'd drop a line here, since I'm not having any luck anywhere else. If you needed a generator head that makes 50KW at 1800RPM, but is preferably 12 inches but no more than 14 inches in diameter, where would you go to get one? Looking for anywhere from 200 to 500 volts out of it. Length is less important, 2-3 feet or so won't be a problem.

I'm exploring a possible project, no idea if it will be feasible or not. Nothing may come from this.

What voltage are you trying to make?

If three phase, it's not too hard - Self excitation of an A/C is not too difficult to figure out. Then find the motor with the size you want and we can work out the numbers.

Then just use one or two on the legs for "house" voltage and current.

Around 360V. Problem is finding one that isn't 18 inches or more in diameter.

That's an odd output voltage. 18 inch in diameter - okay. Do you need 60 hertz?

As an afterthought, can you just use a drive shaft / power tube to get to another area where you can use a regular diameter motor?

Nope, needs to fit inside a tight area. 60hz is ideal. On using a tube and a tunnel, I'll have to check and see. If it will, I can look at a stock generator.
