Post 2 Stroke Engine Lawnmovers
So, I've been reworking some old 2 stroke mowers of mine. Both from the late 70s, early 80s. I love the simplicity of these things! Put new floats and float needles in, cleaned the intake reeds, de-carbonized the exhausts, new plugs and they both run great.

So simple to work on - remind me of my old Honda dirt bikes from that era too.

Very true, that was the first thing that came to my mind too when I was reading your post.

I think the combustion engine is nearing it's end. At least trying to meet all newer and newer environmental regulations that at he same time cost more and more, yet bring less and less benefit is not an infinite plan. Combined that with manufacturers profit driven urge to shorten the life cycle of products and soon the combustion will be no longer be able to compete against electric.

I agree. I think the planned obsolescence model is becoming more prevalent in newer products. I wonder if any product produced today will be able to work like these mowers some 40 odd years later. I would think it might be a safe bet that will probably be no.
