std 5 speed trans 99 chevy k2500

Post by Dibby »

i have a 1999 Chevy K2500 with a vortec 5.7 and 5 speed trans. I am currently deciding my plan as far as an engine rebuild. I'm most certainly thinking forced induction, so i want the drive-line capable of handling between five and six hundred hp.. does anyone know what type of manual trans was implemented on this year/ model truck? I have yet to get any numbers from it, but it appears to have a bolt on aluminum bell housing and a cast steel case. It has PTO access covers on both sides of transmission housing. Does anyone know the likely model, and if it is known for being durable?

sound like an NV4500, used in 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks..very durable for pulling/towing...unsure of high performance durability, I would imagine it would hold up as long as your not beating on it every time you turn the key
