A/C finally works on the LQ9!
Finally solved the A/C problem. There were three problems really. First, the compressor bracket was not aligned proplerly because I used a cutoff wheel to get the mounting points at the "correct" level. Put it on a mill and took measurements properly, and that fixed the bracket alignment. Second, the new pulley on the tensioner was not aligned properly due to a crappy washer used as a spacer between the pulley and the tensioner arm. Fixed this by machining a proper spacer out of round steel stock. Finally, the belt tensioner was maxxing out and when the AC engaged it caused the belt to vibrate due to the increased length when the added force caused the belt to seat more on the pullies. I couldn't go to a shorter belt length because the next one down that is available at common parts stores is too short. I don't want a belt length that needs to be special ordered. This problem was solved by machining a larger idler pulley that mounts on the driver side of the engine by the alternator. This actually solved two problems as it increased the clearance between the belt and the upper radiator hose as well. The new pully is a little heavier than stock but I can live with that.
Now the compressor is being kind of noisy and will probably need replacement. I'm going to run it for a while and see if the noise changes. Glad to have A/C now that winter is on the way, heh.
