Underhood soundproofing

Post Underhood soundproofing
2000 Silverado 4x4 GMT800

While the engine's out, I figure I may as well add some soundproofing as the factory firewall liner is no longer there. Any recommendations? Not sure what I would need to use that can survive the underhood environment.

I saw this stuff used on powerblock for inside the cabin. No first hand experience with it though.

Thanks, but no thanks. I tried the Lizardskin in my 87 S15 and it didn't work out. Never again. All it did was make my truck heavier and if it ever has to be removed you need a jackhammer to do it. It was also a major pain to install.

Why not jsut replace it with the original factory material? Maybe upgrade to the Diesel version. It would look factory that way.

I'm not a big fan of the fiberglass, but if nothing else turns up in the next day or two I'll do that. Good idea on getting insulation for a diesel though, hadn't thought of that. If I go factory I'll get it for a diesel.

They sell Dynamat for under hood applications. It has a reflective coating

Decided to go with Fatmat for this. Came with both the foam dampener and the rubberized stuff where the Dynamat was just the foam pad for 120 bucks. Hoping that between the two here I might have enough to hit part of the trans tunnel as well as the engine firewall.

I generally use dynamat and then spray over it with soundproof rubberized undercoating.
Done the interior of several vehicles that way.
Not sure on firewall,I would probrably look for something like what goes around water heaters for insulating and reflecting heat.
Should be able to cut to fit,not sure how well it would work.

I realize you already bought fatmat, just thought I would throw a suggestion for others (that are too cheap to buy the right stuff like me,lol)

Cool thanks. This stuff has the aluminum facing on it so it'll reflect the heat back.
