the EPA & California's bullying tactics really suck
from holdencrazy.com
Modified Tunes Section Closed
Many of you may be aware of the increased attention that vehicle tuning is receiving from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB).
While it is still legal to tune your vehicle for off-road or race use, it is not legal to do so for road registered vehicles in most US states. The modified tuning section on Tune File Depot has never been very active (only 34 tunes submitted in some 6 years of operation) so we have chosen to remove this section from the Tune File Depot website effective immediately.
It is not clear from these organisations who they consider responsible or accountable for any improper usage. In the recent weeks and months there have been some very large and high profile organisations which have made the bold move of discontinuing sales and distribution of very successful products due to this heightened attention. While Tune File Depot has not produced any of the modified tunes we simply are not prepared to risk being of interest to these agencies. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our users, but hope that you understand.

Afraid not, wasn't interested in them at the time. I was looking for ones that I could use to work on my 4.8/4L80E setup.

I'm wondering if this all isn't related to the loss of our production based economy, and the advent of "service". We're plagued with more and more "regulators", "inspectors", and paper pushers of "agenda".

Definitely the result of "big government" controlling your life and determining what you would be allowed to do on your own. In this case, you will not be allowed to "tamper" with a certified ECM. After all, the government agencies know better than you when it comes to deciding what power suits your needs best. Fuel economy and emissions will be the rule in future production. This topic came up years ago when the EPA proposed the reduction / elimination of non-commercially licensed, tow-capable trucks.

California's EPA laws worked FOR me.
When I bought the Harley...the owner had just moved from Vegas to LA. He was unable to register thge bike in CA or even legally sell it to a CA resident.
WIN for me....nobody else was interested in it.

I see alot of Cal emmisions vehicles here because of how close we are I hate it. Honestly I dont know what the big deal over the tuning stuff is anyway I mean honestly what percentage of people are tampering with ECMs anyway? Id be willing to bet less than 1% and thats including hyperjunk and all the other handhelds that dont do shit anyway

This irritates me. I've always had hopes of moving home. I can't have firearms. I can't have a fast truck without a cat. (diesel)
The landscape is all I get and they'd be happy if I drove a prius. I still run around without the kitty and haven't had any issues in CA yet. But I'm not sure what would happen if I get randomly selected on the roadside for a looksie. I'm not even a resident.
Most I have to worry about here, ( AZ ) is getting dipped. (red diesel)
I get the point.. I do. I realize we're all causing the problem.. Still takes the fun out of being a badass.
I will say.. Since I left LA in '04 it seems like all this EPA work has cleared up the air. I could be wrong, but everytime I visit it crystal clear.

Cenex has an additive to the diesel that was red. Dad delivered it to a lot of Cenex stations. It made your diesel run better. I do not know if it is in use now or not.

Tom's 454 is pretty much stock. He runs E85 and has tuned it to work with that....

Heard words to this affect on Dennis Miller last week by Christopher Monckton.
7 Trillion dollars of wasted dollars and lost production to save .015 degrees over the next 90 years seems rather excessive to me.

Yeah but it's all just evil business profits so it's OK. Those guys have all kinds of money just laying around because we all know those evil businesses are charging hundreds of times more than it cost to make things.

You sure hit the nail on the head there. There was nothing wrong with the placcard system that was being used. Someone had a business friend that needed work so the government wanted a blank sign instead of please drive safely. Every trailer had to have all placards changed. Someone made money there. They wouldn't be in debt if companies would charge the government what the average person has to pay for repair parts. When my brother was in the Navy, he went to radio shack to pick up something he needed. It cost pennies compared to $450 they were charged from government granted parts suppliers. I talked with a person in charge of getting parts for the vehicles in the National guard. He had so much money to sprnd a year. If he underspent, they were punished by not getting the same dollars the next year. All the government knows is how to wast money, and not reward those who save them money. That makes the goverment look bad. It would be interesting to actually see how much they could reduse, if they would reward those that save, and not spend. I wonder if I could get a government grant on making my heavy duty half ton into an actual heavy duty. They give out grants for worse things to study. How much methane gas a cow produces. Seriously. That is being studied at the university in Lethbrige. I know that is here in Canada, its also being studdied in the states. They are finding canola seed helps reduce the gas. Probably all the oil in the seeds. There are some big dairy farms in Wisconsin, that are using methane gas to run generators to power their farm, plus selling extra power to the power companies. This is what they need to look into. We were alocted so much water during a drought year. Yet water was being spilled into the creek that went past the farm. So Dad got water right to water in the creek. We pumped that water to irrigate during dry years. At that time I heard the government wanted a 5 year plan written up on what was going to be done with the waste water, Water that isn't soaked up by the plant or ground. I heard they wanted that water caught and reused or filtered out before going into the river. On Dads farm. most waste water was filtered naturally, by the grass before entering the river. Dad also side banded the kiquid fertilizer, so there wasn't as much used or wasted. Dad also put in under ground pipe to use for irrigation, so it wouldn't waste water, by natural evaporation. He even did a cost study to do that with the other farm, not just were we lived. Because of all that he was nominated for farmer of the year in our area. He got it to, just in timt to be put out of business and told to sell everything. He still had a workable loan but no one would take it over. Dad also had mineral rights to the property. He had a loan with the federal land bank. Because he couldn't make the payment, he lost the land. Then my sister got a job working a company that does a lot with the oil & natural gas industry. All the property the government siezed, they kept the mineral right when the property was sold. Every square inch of the farm was tested by plane. There was three years in a row where a big propped plane flew slowly over the area. It wasn't long after that when we lost the farm. That probably was just a coinsidence.
