Post New 24x and 58x for SBC and 4.3L V6
Here's a sneak peek at what we've been working on for 1987-up SBC and 4.3L V6. Early SBC engines won't accept the timing set, but depeding on demand, we may support the early SBC in this fashion.

Illustrated in this photo with a 1996-up 8 inch Vortec damper.

We are hoping to be in full production by summer 2013. To make one of these kits available today would be too expensive to even bother quoting. The prices (which are not yet all known) will be much less when we are in full production.

Do these make degreeing the cam that much more important?

Good question. From the research we've done, the Gen IV LS timing sets (both 1x and 4x) are only available in one sprocket configuration (each). I've spoken with an engine builder (and dyno facility) about this and they claim to have installed camshafts at other than 0 degrees and the ECM seems happy (with the shifted cam signal).

On the other hand, I've spoken with customers using aftermarket ECUs (like BigStuff3 and Holley EFI) and they've indicated the software reports a cam/crank signal misalignment when the cam signal is out of alignment (think dialing in the SBC Vortec distributor's 1x cam signal).

Fortunately, the cam timing sprockets pictured above are billet steel. We are working with Cloyes to have a new timing set made with a 360 degree raised signal. We will mill each cam timign sprocket in-house with the 1x and 4x signals. Customers requiring a degree shift in the cam signal will be able to order (for an additional cost) a custom sprocket. I don't expect this to be a very common request.

Any update to this or possibly a more defined date on when we can purchase this?

Our order of the new cam sprockets were supposedly started three weeks ago. No updates since.

The first two "production" timing covers fell short of our expectations, so we are working on a new method of attaching the sensor boss.

We hope to have this kit ready in July.

Might be a silly question but could you use the 4x reluctor with the front cam sensor? This would probably make it hard to set the distributor tho

We do sell a 4x cam reluctor for the Vortec distributor. Yes, this makes setting the distributor difficult without an oscilloscope.
