Post Looking for build threads LS in to 73-87 Chevy.
I am working with a friend and planning a LQ9/4L80E swap in his 87 chevy pickup. I searched for some time and didnt come up with much, just wondered if any of you have come across any in the past and wouldnt mind posing up some links. I would prefer some with lots of information/pictures, not just 1 page of people talking about it. I have done enough LS swapps before and know whats involved, I just never done one in the 87 truck. I am looking for what people are doing for exhaust (manifolds/headers) AC and cooling fans mostly. my friend wants to have all the parts ready and mid march or early april just start busting on it and see how fast we can get a swap done without having to stop and research parts in the middle, thats going to take up a lot of time. we would rather have everything needed so theres no stops. I read someplace that the 2010 camaro manifolds fit the frame rails of the 73-87 trucks, just wanted conformation.
If I can remember to take a lot of pictures I will post up a build thread when we get started.

You do realize that an 87 Truck should have a "tbi™" in it, just so you know what your messing with.

Good luck, I have an 87, 383 Vortec-tbi™, cam, headers, Cant beat that old square body style.

I know I saw one in the classic trucks magazine. Either that or street and performance sometimes has tech articles on thier site Hotrodlane.cc

Not in a full size, but the parts needed are the same ones you'd need to put an LS engine into an S10. Pretty much, you need the correct engine mount adapters and if using a truck engine and wanting air conditioning you may need to notch the frame or make a new AC mount to move it higher. On the exhaust, a set of headers for an S10 may work as well as they are designed to fit in a much tighter space than you are working with. I'd suggest a perusal around this site to see what they are doing there. I don't see you having any real problems though, because the engine bays on those trucks are huge. I miss my 79.

Yeah those engines bays are huge, most of the time I have to crawl inside of mine to do anything on it, I would say you could almost get 2 LS engines in there side by side if you worked at it.

If it was only a Twin tbi™-LS then you would have something.

We can only dream.

The engine bays are huge, but the frame rails are pretty narrow i have heard of people having to notch the frame a little even to run the truck exhaust manifolds. the guy doesn't want to cut in to the frame at all.
