me personally... i wouldnt suggest too far over the factory rev. limiter on a stock motor... considering you'll probably toss a rod at anything much over 5800-6000 rpm... or atleast cause some costly damage...

if your runnin the factory motor... not sure what the rev. limiter is at... but i wouldnt push it past around 5600-5700 rpm to be on the safer side...

just my opinion though... all depends on what your shooting for.

Thanks Acid and welcome to the forum, I just wanted to know what the highest rev limits anyone has seen used on the early Vortecs. I may need some extended rpm range with a new cam.

Westers has my 3rd gear shift at 5500(I asked him to for testing purposes). I wouldnt recommend it on the stock intake. The intake and/or cam limit it to around 5400. It pretty much falls on its face after that. It takes forever to get to 5500. This is on a whippled setup,10psi,water injection, headers, stock heads.

After I get my Tunercat I plan on bring it back down to around 5200.

Damn, you must be out west with some really long roads to be able to test out a 5500 RPM 3rd gear shift!

Hog,

I don't know if you've seen this in your TunerCat files but it may be the reason why you cannot get it to rev past where ever it is stuck at.

Under Constants -> System Prameters is a two fuel cutoff settings. They are supposed to be for only when your VSS is bad but the names of them are "Fuel Cutoff Engine Speed (Bad VSS)" set @ 5600 and "Fuel Resume Engine Speed (Bad VSS)" set @5400

Good luck,

Conrad
