does the gen VI big block have a differant balancer than the other gen 454? thanks
Yes, it's different.
Same bore, same shaft diameter, same counterweight.
The difference is in the depth of the hub. The Vortec version is shorter by exactly the thickness of the reluctor ring. An aftermarket weighted balancer can be used if the hub is machined down to the correct depth.
Thanks James, you need to go and work for Fluid Damper, They could not tell me nothing, wheather it would work or not. I have always used a fluid damper on my motors, but i gues because the vortec 454 had not been produced for to many years i guess they choose not to invest time and money in making one for the Gen VI. So that means theoretically if you use a old still crank (two peice rear main) with the adaptor for the seal, it will work too? If so my next rebuild will be a stroker since it is so hard to find a decant one for the one peice. very interesting. Thanks
