Love the setup. If you still only have one screen, you're missing out.

But agree on the idea that some of "that stuff" is certainly not good for society....i.e., not a fan of the current 900 levels of financial abstraction and leveraging / lending that makes possible our "financial industry", which effectively produces nothing and thus is simply a tax on all goods. It's certainly not all bad, but when you ship all your manufacturing to China and then fill the hole in your economy with more of "that stuff", you're going to be in for a very big surprise down the road.

Computers made this possible. Ain't they great? Multiple screens, cross tabulations, programmed trading always on and always looking for the edge or the advantage anywhere there are electronic markets. "We have met the enemy and he is us." What will the world be like when tens of thousands of us can have our own desktop arrays like that? Trading service contracts, commodities, arranging shipments, warehousing, distribution? It ought to be like a giant feudal system someday with the serfs toiling for their Lords, and the Lords promising "protection".

I used to work in a center that used something similar, except we had 5 screens. Each screen was about, I dunno, 15x20 feet? Something like that. We used it to monitor a nationwide fiber optic network. It ain't all graphical crap where satellite cameras focus in on problems either, just text alarms with CNN on the screen in the middle.

Obligatory cat pic that encompasses the Lords providing "protection".

What I found weird and very, very sad is that I got two emails the same
day with that picture attached. Must have appeared on some forum, blog,
or analyst letter they both read.

One guy used to be an engineer. Went to MBA school. Got an MBA and
now can't find a MBA job. Consulting in his old profession (not very good
at it at that). Trading on the side and makes more trading than working.
He only has two LCDs.

Other guy is from my old group (Harvard MBA) with a BA in finance.
Knows nothing about computing, just the buzz words and does know
enough to use them in the right context. He wrote asking if I knew
HOW2 setup a system for him. He didn't offer to pay, just wants enough
info to hire and manage some kids to setup. Know that this guy tried to
have our company invest in a garage op that had predictive software for
engineering apps...and...I made the mistake of confirming that it is also
potentially good for predicting trends for financial models...

Sad too in that society looks to that kind of person as a hero/goal. Rich, rich
and doesn't get their hands dirty, nor breaks a sweat.

Maybe crying inside that he wasn't the star of the latest Terminator...

Its kinda funny to see these Arnold Schwarzenegger today on the site seeing that I JUST watched "Pumping Iron" last night.
Arnold was a big guy, with excellent proportions, but as all bodybuilders of the late 70's their legs were MUCH smaller than they are today. Todays top competeing bodybuilders have massive legs, well massive everything(save for their testicles).
Todays anabolic steroids and other hormones, knowledge of nutrition and training are making todays builders much larger, and MUCH more cut than Arnold-era bodybuilders.

Here is a link about Steroid use/abuse which has many pics of some VERY large individuals.
