Howards Dad

Some sad news from a forum friend. Howards dad died of a massive heart attack a few hours ago. Keep him and his family in your prayers for peace and comfort that is above our understanding.

Sorry to hear this man. I've lost a couple family members this year too. It doesn't make things any easier but know you and your family will be in the prayers of mine.

Same here Howard. My dad is in the hospital on hospice after his 4th stroke in 4 years so it's just a matter of time.

So I can relate, we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Lost my dad this March, so still raw emotionally

Know from the spinets here and there that you and your kids loved
him greatly and he knew it.

I'm really sorry, Howard. It takes a great guy to raise a great guy, so he must have been an amazing person. All of our thoughts are on you and your family, of that you can be sure.

Thankyou to all of you.
It's very comforting...and touching to know I have so many friends, most of whom I've never even met...who offer the support you guys do.
This is difficult to type..but I'll push on.
Dad's death was totally unexpected. He was going to turn 70 this year...a month after I turn 40 and I was planning on a dual party to celebrate.
We also had a fishing trip planned at a friends property in the country (the one in the 'show off' thread).
Dad went to see a doctor last week for some general 'old people' stuff.
He's had a sore hip for years and we finally convinced him to get something done about it (had him convinced a few years back but then Mum got sick...and eventually died...after which he had completely forgotten about 'himself').
Anyway...dad's been out of breath lately...even after just talking normally....it would cause him to cough (I suspected the worst).
A lung x-ray showed all clear...good!
An ECG showed a small 'blip' which I was told was a slightly weakened valve (or something) and he was prescribed Aspirin and booked into see a Cardiac (Heart) specialist (Ironically...for today).
My sister and her husband were away and Dad was looking after her 3 kids. He took all 3 kids to the doctors (as my nephew had a minor appointment of some sort) and this is where he collapsed...in the waiting room.
My Nephew called me and said "Pa wasn't feeling well and collapsed" (he seemed very calm).
I said I'd be there soon (5 minutes drive) and expected to get there and have him say "oh...it's nothing but they're taking me to Hospital for some tests" (nothing to worry about).
I arrived to see 3 ambulances and an emergency paramedic response vehicle parked out front of the medical centre and thought "this is not good".
when I walked in they were still in the process of CPR, which I didn't expect to see and confirmed my worst fears.
After about 45mins...they informed me they had tried everything and they were unable to restart his heart.
Some of you know we have plans to come to the US on Wednesday. If the funeral has been conducted by then...we will still be coming. Dad would have insisted on it.
One thing I'll say. My dad was the best father ANYONE could have ever wanted!

Thats too bad my friend, unfortunately cardiac issues can be difficult to catch very well. I had a cousin who was born with a small heart defect, but never seemed to affect him at all, we used to spend all our summers with his family while I was growing up, and when he was about 35, one day he was playing basketball with his 3 young daughters and collapsed. parametics said he was gone before his body hit the ground, and he had just been to see the cariologist that month who said it was doing just fine. its been several years but I still miss him, he wasn't just a cousin but a good friend, and I expect I'll miss him the rest of my life. With time things will get better, and you'll always have the memories of the time you were able to share with him. my family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
