I find myself interested in the new midsize/compact pickup

Which hopefully will come with a diesel and or TBIâ„¢ power.

Crew cab, real 4wd and (fingers crossed big time) a new version of the beloved ZR2 option. Man oh man if there was one thing I would like to see, its a small pickup that can make a name for itself offroad.

I've been eyeing a few traded in extended and crew cab full size trucks, but although I once owned and loved them I now find them too thirsty and difficult to maneuver. Small is nimble, more efficient, and only rarely would I wish for anything larger.

I'm with you. As much as I like driving my full size reg cab, I really miss my ext cab S15. It was the perfect size, had plenty of legroom, just needed some power under the hood.

I am with you on this one. The best pickup I have owned was my 2000 S-10 ZR2.

I have seen the new LS based 4.3L V6 with the 285 HP and I'm thinking that would be a awesome swap into one of those 1st or 2nd gen S-10's

I grew up on those having an '83 RCSB 2wd, '84 ECSB 2wd, '86 Blazer 2wd, '91 ECSB 4x4, '91,'93&'97 Bravada's and last but not least 2000 ECSB 4x4 ZR2. GM finally got it right then killed them off with the abomination Colorado/Canyon.

I always wanted a Sy/Ty, and that new LS4.3 has the same power as those earlier turbo's ones!

My dad had a '92 rcsb 4.3 2wd 5sp,

I had a '98 ECSB 2.2 5sp, and a 2000 Blazer zr2 4l60e. I really liked that blazer. I dumped a lot of money in to fixing it, which it shouldn't have needed being only 7yrs old and around 70K miles. But it could go places. Really tough places.

I may consider it if it had a manual, but considering the manual is going extinct in the US (and other places for that matter) I might be out of luck.

Meh, good riddance to old gear boxes. DSG is where its at!

I don't miss a manual transmission. I never wanted one off roading. I've never wanted one while driving in a "spirited" fashion. I've never missed the one I had. When autos are done right, there are controls that over ride automatic selection, they shift faster than you can, and there is no pesky dry clutch to burn up.

The colorado at least looked like the the full size and looked like a truck. That thing looks like a jacked up minivan with a bed, ya know the toyota tundra effect.

General Motors unveiled a rare new breed of pickup truck at the Los Angeles Auto Show: A redesigned Chevrolet Colorado.
It's rare because it's a small truck from a domestic automaker, something you won't find at any Chevy, Ford or Dodge dealership now.
In fact, just in the last couple of years, Ford has stopped selling the Ranger small truck, and Dodge has discontinued its Dakota.
The GM Colorado, introduced Wednesday, was created specifically for the North American market and is not related to a larger truck, also called the Chevrolet Colorado, that GM (GM, Fortune 500) sells overseas.
Here's the thing: The Colorado's not that small.
It's really a mid-sized truck designed to compete against trucks like the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma.
GM's U.S.-based competitors say they don't need to offer trucks smaller than the Ford (F, Fortune 500) F150 and Dodge Ram because trucks are now fuel efficient enough to meet customer needs.
In fact, the most efficient versions of their big trucks, they point out, are less thirsty than the smaller Japanese trucks.
But, even though it isn't releasing fuel economy figures yet, GM is promising a more fuel efficient truck than any of the others.
The Colorado's base engine will be a 193-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder. There's also a 302-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 available as an option. Both engines will come with 6-speed transmissions. A diesel engine will be offered later.
GM's also promising better technology features on the new Colorado.
"The customer is looking for a number of different things," GM spokesman Otie McKinley said. "We're going to stand tall in the competitive set."
Like it's larger sibling, the Silverado, the Colorado will have an eight-inch color touch screen inside the cab and a number of USB ports to connect and charge devices like iPods and phones. It will also offer safety features such as forward collision and lane departure warnings.
GM stopped producing the last-generation Colorado in 2012, but the development of its replacement had been delayed by the automaker's 2009 bankruptcy.
"This was a product we wanted to bring back and we wanted to bring back correct," McKinley said.

I like the official pics. Its a shame we have to wait ANOTHER year for the diesel. Seems that always happens with vehicles I want. For whatever reason my desired engine/trans is delayed or only available on some package I don't want.

4x4, z71, diesel, six speed auto, crew cab. There. Perfect.
