Re: I'm certain it doesn't...
No way it is an equal amount of work. To compress the air you have to work against it the entire time, but you will not get an equal force fed back into the crank. If it did work this way then air shocks would not be able to work, as they are just using compressed air to support the vehicle weight....

I'm almost certain the energy required to compress the air is entirely regained during power and intake strokes when the air is allowed to expand...the cylinder is just acting as an air spring. What I'm most curious about is the thermodynamic end...i.e., if the heat released during compression equal...

If you have a totally dead and sealed cylinder whose contents are being compressed on compression and exhaust strokes and decompressed on intake and power strokes, the engine is doing zero net work in compressing/decompressing the air, correct? Is the heat generated on compression equal to the heat ...

Wow....that's really truly insane. Lamborghinis and Ferraris, even the high-end ones, are not that difficult to work on, correct? I can see MB having a nightmare on its hands if that's the case. It seems to me that owners, even owners used to owning exotics, might be caught off guard when their SLR ...

Did she get the steering wheel audio controls? If so, press the button in the lower right hand corner of the steering wheel a few times until the driver-information-center (i.e., the odometer/info display) says "AUTOMATIC LOCKING" or some such. Then press the "enter" key...I believe it's the one dir...

Re: LA Mexico
This country is seriously upside down and backwards. I have been making the prediciton: "political correctness will be the death of this country." I never thought I would see the day when our "leaders" would be having a serious debate about illegal aliens obtaining driver's licenses, and being allo...

The story on this truck... http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/autoshows/sema2004/chevrolet/coloradoss/page1.html Apparently it has an LS2 in it. So the engine fits. So apparently the engine not fitting is not the reason that GM will decide against building this truck. They will have to choose amongst o...

Dead sexy. Bit much plastic but it does look well done. Like the darker wheels but they either need to be smaller or have high profile tires, IMHO. Where'd you acquire those photos...and any word on the powertrain? Edit: Can you imagine how well those would sell with LS2s and a reg cab option?....so...

Funny.... I still remember my dad's 92 2wd cab as being pretty quick. Mind you this is period-specific....what was quick in 92 isn't necessarily quick today. I just remember all the a$$whippings we used to deliver to various members of the burgeoning ricer population. We put the standard chip+K&N+ca...

Since both of these ...

Dang, I was looking forward to my next one. Couldn't you have simply set the size rule for the avatars so that they didn't get too cumbersome? Even though some of the avatars were not "performance related", these seem to be glimpses of the personalities of their authors. We are, after all, a pretty...

Speeder, with regard to what you're saying about repeat business in general, yes, I agree, but I can't help but help but think about the three people I know who own Tacomas... Tacoma #1 2WD, regular cab, non-prerunner: one side of front suspension detached entirely while truck was doing 65mph down t...

As far as I know you're supposed to run them at 60hz. LCDs don't "refresh" like CRTs. A CRT is repainting the screen line-by-line top to bottom at such a rate (ie 60, 75, or 85 times a second) to fool your eyes into thinking there's a complete image on the screen. Thus the effect when you take a pic...
